The Boat Race
The Boat Race is a race between the Cambridge University and Oxford University boat clubs along part of The Thames River in Putney, London. It was first held in 1829 and has been held annually since 1829. The womens race has been held since 1927 but only on the same course since 2015.
The event is reasonably special as most races boat races are straight to avoid either team having a benefit whereas this race curves with The Thames.
In 2012 a protester swam out into the middle of The Thames and disrupted the race. The race was restarted about half way through with Cambridge eventually winning.
